An important meeting for anyone concerned with getting the best for Renfrewshire will take place in Paisley on Thursday 11 September.
Working with your Councillors – What are the New Opportunities? is organised by the Renfrewshire Council for Voluntary Services (RCVS) and the Electoral Reform Society. The meeting will explore how voting reform has opened the door to a new relationship between councillors and constituents, and look at ways to make this work for local people.
Janis MacDonald, chief executive of RCVS said: "With this event, we want to further the strong local tradition of people in Renfrewshire lobbying their councillors appropriately and finding new ways to have discussions, the local area committees for example".
Reforms to the voting system at the May 2007 local elections have opened the door to a new relationship between councillors and those they represent.
Amy Rodger, Scottish Director of the Electoral Reform Society, said: "Reforming the system was a giant leap forward, and now the Society wants to see people using the opportunities this has opened up".
The meeting is free and open to all. If you would like to attend, please contact Kate Robinson at the Electoral Reform Society Scotland on 0141 227 3973 or at kate.robinson@electoral-reform.org.uk.
