The world's first Media Academy Network was launched in the UK recently and Reid Kerr College was announced as a partner in Scotland’s only representative amongst the 17 academies that make up the national footprint of colleges and universities now working with industry in developing the next wave of talent to create the 'Facebook', 'You Tube' and 'Bebo' style concepts and media content of the future.
The Skillset Media Academy Network was launched in London by culture minister James Purnel, skills minister David Lammy, and leading figures from academia and the media. John Collins, Reid Kerr lecturer in media picked up the award alongside colleagues from the Creative Loop.
Reid Kerr will work closely with this network in conjunction with Creative Loop: the Skillset Media Academy Scotland and other key national partners. The network has been devised by Skillset - the UK Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries - with the aim of working alongside the creative audio visual industries in Scotland to improve the quality of training within colleges and the quality of graduates entering the industry.
John Collins said, “From podcasting to picking music, no industry has changed more fundamentally than radio in the past five years. Reid Kerr’s unique links with the industry at all levels means that this change is reflected in our courses, giving our students a head start when embarking on their careers.”
